Today is our Kristin's 26th birthday. When she was a little girl (and every March 9th since) we would spend the last moments of the night before her birthday re-telling the story of when she was born. She would prop herself up on the pillows in her bed and pull the covers up to her chin. The story goes like this...
"It was a warm Saturday in March of 1985. Daddy went to help clean trucks with the volunteer fire department. Mommy put on that blue sweat suit AGAIN and Dale and I spent the day at home playing tractors and reading and making food for the freezer. The afternoon came with a few hints that you would arrive soon. Aunt Cindy was visiting from Dallas and asked to have Dale for the evening while Daddy and I went to the movie to see "Witness" at the theatre that used to be downtown in Mattoon. Then we walked one lap around the mall and I was pooped. We went back to Grandma and Grandpa's house to get Dale and realized that you were likely to arrive in the night. We secretly took Dale aside and coaxed him to ask Aunt Cindy if he could have a sleep over. Of course, she agreed. Then we went home to our little farm house, put the hospital bag near the back door and slept until 5:00 the next morning. I woke up and told Daddy it was time to call Dr. Ramsey. Shortly, at 10:06 you were born! You weighed 6 lbs and 10 oz. Daddy walked through the doorway of the delivery room and whispered to Dale that he had a little sister! He turned to Grandmas and Grandpas and Aunts and Uncles and announced your arrival. With your sweet face, tiny little lips and a head covered with dark curly hair you were the talk of the second floor. The next day we brought you home and our family was 4!"
We love you, Peanut! Happy Birthday!
