Our cousin died this week. Steve Metzger was a real man among men. He defined the expression "family man." He made being a great husband an art form. Steve loved Milli more than anything and we all knew it. He loved Mattoon and he loved baseball. He loved Friday nights with friends, breakfast at Gill's diner, cookies and milk before bed, snacks from vending machines. Steve could fix anything. He chose the siding color of his building to match Milli's eyes. His kids adored him and his grandson was the light of his life. Alan remembers the summers of their boyhood when Steve would come to the farm and stay. Steve was only 52. His life was too short. We will miss him terribly. Don't know if I'll ever get used to saying "Milli" without "Steve and" in front of it.
