February Ice

The snow moves across the fields and roads forming drifts faster than the plows can clear it.  They've given up now.  Looking out our front windows, we can barely see our neighbors barn.  Everything, everywhere is coated with a thick layer of ice.  Mother Nature has transformed the lot behind our house into a shiny, smooth ice rink.  The weight limits of our baby birch trees are being put to the test.

The power lines, as you'll see in the video just could not continue to bear the weight of the ice and the 30 mph winds.

The photo of our pasture gate is a shot of the broken line just south of our house.  We are so grateful to the men and women who were working tirelessly all through the day and night to restore our power.  Some had traveled from states far away and were still working late into the night.  We've been without electric power for more than 24 hours.  We spent yesterday huddled near the fireplace wrapped in quilts and reading books we've been intending to start.   We'll see what today brings.
